Professional Development Scholarships for TIDE
Several professional organizations have professional development scholarships for TIDE. CRLA - Technology Special Interest Group - Dr. Cynthia Peterson Memorial Award
One $500 scholarship to allay the cost of participating in TIDE offered to current CRLA members. The Technology/Distance Learning SIG (Special Interest Group) has created this professional development award. It was developed to honor her work developing TIDE and her work with CRLA. This professional development award is for CRLA members, preferably Technology and Distance Learning SIG members to use towards to attend TIDE.
Selection criteria will be by proposals which support the enhancement and growth of the participant during or after TIDE or projects that support the mission of the Technology/Distance Learning SIG. Past proposals have included a portal website for reading resources, a wiki online teaching and learning, which the SIG would grow and maintain. Other ideas might focus on posting a diary of activities while attending TIDE, SIG activities at state, regional and national conferences, SIG news notes, SIG interactions throughout the year, or proposed ways to grow SIG membership.

College Reading and Learning Association - CRLA
Three $1,000 Scholarships. These awards are offered to current CRLA members (reason enough to join CRLA) pursuing graduate education, seeking research assistance, or participating in intensive workshops and institutes such as TIDE, the Winter Institute, and the Kellogg Institute. Each member can be awarded one such scholarship per year. These are awarded in August, so typically you would apply for this scholarshipto attend TIDE the following year.
National College Learning Center Association - NCLCA
Brenda Pfaehler Professional Development GrantThe purpose of the Brenda Pfaehler grant is to foster the professional growth of NCLCA current members (reason enough to join NCLCA). It is awarded to NCLCA members to assist in research, leadership, and/or curriculum innovation. Each year, NCLCA sets aside $1000 to fund one or more such projects. The exact number of awards depends on the quality of the proposals received. See www.nclca.org for details.
National Association for Developmental Education
The Anne Ferguson Award for Professional Development ($500 stipend). The award is named in honor of the late Anne Ferguson, for her commitment to elevating professionalism in developmental education. She was an outstanding educator at Southeastern Louisiana University. She served as President of the Louisiana Association for Developmental Education, Vice-President of NADE, and mentor to many developmental educators. This $500 cash award can be used by a NADE member in a variety of professional development areas (e.g., instructional design, research/ evaluation, individual/departmental/ institutional growth). Criteria for evaluation: (a) one or more years as a NADE member (reason enough to join NADE); (b) one or more years as an educator or administrator in a developmental education program; (c) current employment as an educator or administrator in a developmental education program; (d) description of a professional development project in the area of individual/departmental/or institutional growth, instructional design, or research/evaluation and how that project will contribute to professional development for the nominee, the nominee’s department, the nominee’s institution, or the profession of developmental education. Directions for application: (a) letter of application stating (1) number of years of membership in NADE, (2) number of years experience in developmental education, and (c) current job title (limit of one page); (b) title and description of the proposed development project, including how it will contribute to professional development for the nominee, the nominee’s department, the nominee’s institution, or the profession of developmental education (limit of one page).
State Chapters of CRLA and NADE
Often, individual chapters of CRLA or NADE offer scholarships for professional development. For example, the TxCRLA state chapter has the Ann B. Faulkner Professional Development Award of $500 and TADE (our NADE chapter in Texas) has a $500 scholarship for professional development. Check out your state chapter
